Our Commitment to Our Customers

WE BUILD EVERY HOUSE AS IF IT WERE OUR OWN!
Stephen Adams, 2010
The Foundation and Basement
We prefer to install our own foundations so as to be sure we start on a level and square foundation. Care must be taken when digging the area for the foundation that you do not get a dip in the elevation at any point around the footing. Concrete must be poured over undisturbed soil to ensure a solid base for the foundation. We use only the best operators when doing any digging or backfilling.

After the concrete forms are removed the exterior of the wall is scraped the tie holes are all filled with tar and then a heavy coat of foundation coating is applied to the entire wall surface to ensure the foundation is totally waterproof. Weeping tile and gravel is installed all around the foundation before it is back filled.

Due to the possible slight dips in the foundation top sill gaskets will quite often not give you a very tight seal between the foundation and your housing frame work. Therefore we always put a heavy band of tar on top of the foundation and embed the sill into it to ensure a perfect fit.

When pouring the basement floor we always install a catch track between the new floor and the concrete foundation to eliminate the possibility of water ever getting out over your floor in the case of a flood. The catch track leads to a sump pit and as long as you have a sump pump (and it is plugged in) you will be fine.

The Structure
All floor sheathing is not only screwed down but all the sheathing is glued to the floor joists with a construction adhesive to prevent any squeaks from developing. We prefer to use solid wood sheathing rather than a man made product. Firstly, the plywood is a stronger product and secondly the man made sheathing has been known to give off certain gases that some people may be allergic to.We make solid wood corners, inside corners and wall partition backs which are all installed as we are framing your dream home. WE DO NOT USE AIR NAILERS in any of the framing process .Your project is all nailed by hand . This ensures a much stronger structure and mostly a more level and true to design house.
The Roof System
We install hurricane ties to all our roof systems. There may not be a lot of hurricanes on P.E.I as of yet but it is too late when your roof is on the ground somewhere. All roof shingles are tarred before they go to the roof to be installed to prevent the loss of shingles off your roof due to lack of tarring after.
Weatherproofing and Insulating
All windows and doors are caulked, taped and insulated around with expanding foam to ensure the complete sealing of the unit. We insulate both the walls and attic area ourselves .We apply all the vapor barrier and totally seal around all the windows, doors, light fixture outlets, switches, and all plumbing pipes to create an air tight house. When insulating your attic we like to first apply a layer of batt insulation and then add the blown in insulation in on top of the batts to give you the best insulated attic possible.

Interior Finishing
We also install all interior trims, doors etc. We install most floorings click, hardwood and ceramic tile floors. We build cupboards and vanities. What we are trying to say is that if we build your house you do not need to have a dozen different contractors on the job site. One company means a better understanding of what the homeowner wants and that is what we strive for is to build you the best house we possibly can and to have you happy with the end result.

WE DO IT ALL FROM FOUNDATION TO CUPBOARDS.

Our Company

Stephen Adams, Owner.
Born on AUG 01,1957.

Stephen resides with his wife Anne in a home he constructed on his families property overlooking the beautiful community of Margate, where he has lived all his life.

Born on a family farm Stephen learned the value of hard work at a very young age, having numerous tasks to perform around the farm from the time he was old enough to carry a bucket or push a shovel. At the age of fifteen Stephen got a summer job with a neighbor who owned a construction company pouring concrete foundations and floors as well as general building construction. Stephen worked for the same company for the following two summers before attending Holland College to pursue his carpentry training. After graduating, Stephen worked in the construction trade for several years before deciding to try something different. He managed a feed and hardware store for five years until his love for working with his hands and the fact of working (being trapped as it felt) inside a building all the time when he had been used to working outdoors all summer and winter got to be too much for him. He hired on with another construction company, as foreman, and continued his love of building and working with wood. In 1991 Stephen decided to go out on his own, forming Doc’s Construction. Stephen has always kept his crew to a selected few men to ensure that the highest standard and quality of craftsmanship goes into every project they take on, big or small.

Doc's Construction has a fully equipped wood shop to handle any construction or renovation project requirements.

Doc's Construction crew are all certified IntegraSpec foundation installers. The styrofoam foundation system is growing in popularity. We can install it for you.
